Privacy Policy
The short version: Aerion stores only what it needs to teach you. Your chats, memory and progress are private to your account, you can delete any of it at any time, and Aerion never sells your data or shows ads.
What Aerion stores
- Account: your email address and a securely hashed password (or, if you continue with Google, your Google account's email and name; Aerion never sees your Google password). If you turn on two-factor sign-in, a secret for your authenticator app.
- Your learning: saved chats, your learning path, quiz results, the days you studied, and the name you ask Aerion to call you.
- Memory: short notes Aerion makes about your goals, level and interests, if memory is on. You can see, edit, delete or switch off memory under You → What Aerion remembers.
- Usage counts: how many requests you make per day and how much AI processing they used, to enforce fair-use limits and estimate costs.
- Study plan: the days, time and length you choose in the study planner.
- Photos: photos you attach are shrunk in your browser (which also removes location and other hidden details) and sent with that one message. They are not saved by Aerion; your saved chat only notes that a photo was attached.
- Documents: when you study from a PDF or text file, the file is sent to Anthropic once to create study notes. Aerion saves those notes in that chat so you can keep studying; the original file is not stored.
- Shared quizzes: if you share a quiz, its title and questions are saved so anyone with the link can take it. Your name and email are never shown. Shared quizzes are deleted with your account.
- Notes: the notebooks you create and the parts of answers you save to them. Only you can see them; teachers and linked parents never do.
- Practice exams: each exam's title, score, time taken and which topics you got right or wrong (not the questions themselves). Only you can see them.
- Progress: the badges you earn (and when), your weekly study goal and your best streak.
- Review cards, level and language: flashcards you save to Smart review (with when each is next due), and the answer level and language you choose.
- Reminders: if you turn on Smart review reminders in a browser, the hour and time zone you pick, and the browser's notification address (issued by Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft, depending on your browser). In the phone apps, reminders and app lock settings stay on your phone and are not sent to Aerion. Face ID and fingerprints are checked by your phone; Aerion never receives them.
- Safety records: if Aerion refuses a message as harmful or manipulative, the first 200 characters of that message, the time and the type are kept for 90 days so the owner can review misuse.
Aerion does not record your location or contacts, and does not use advertising or tracking cookies. It uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in, plus a few settings saved in your browser (such as whether answers are read aloud).
Voice: when you tap the microphone, your browser turns your speech into text using its own speech service, which may send the audio to your browser's maker (for example Google for Chrome or Apple for Safari) under their privacy policies. Aerion only receives the resulting text and never records audio. Reading answers aloud happens on your device.
How it is used
- To answer your questions and personalize lessons to your goals and level.
- To keep Aerion safe: daily and per-minute limits, and pausing accounts that repeatedly send harmful messages.
- To run and improve the service, using totals (such as requests per day), not the content of your chats.
Aerion never sells your personal information and never uses it for advertising.
Who processes your data
Aerion relies on three service providers, each handling data only to provide its part of the service:
- Supabase stores accounts and data in an encrypted database and handles sign-in.
- Stripe processes payments if you buy Aerion Plus. Your card details go straight to Stripe; Aerion never sees or stores them. Aerion keeps only your plan, its status and renewal date, and Stripe's reference numbers for your subscription.
- Anthropic provides the Claude AI models. Your messages, any photos you attach, and the learner notes needed for a reply, are sent to Anthropic to generate each answer. When web search is on, Aerion may send short search queries based on your question to Anthropic's search provider.
- Vercel hosts the website and processes requests as they pass through.
- Browser push services (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft, depending on your browser) deliver reminder notifications if you turn them on. They receive only the reminder text, such as how many cards are ready.
Who can see your data
Database rules let each account read only its own chats, memory and progress. The site owner's dashboard shows totals, account emails, request counts, and the safety records described above. It does not show your chats or memory. If someone appears to be in crisis, that is never logged.
Classes
If you join a teacher's class, the teacher sees the name you choose for that class, when you joined, which steps of their assignments you've ticked off, and your answers and score on quizzes they assign to the class. They never see your email, chats, memory, your own practice quizzes or anything else. Other students can't see you or your scores. Leaving a class (or being removed) deletes your progress and quiz scores in it. If you teach a class, your students see the class name, your announcements, assignments and quizzes, not your name or email.
Family
You can let a parent see your progress by making a one-time code under You → Family. A linked parent sees only your study days, streak, quiz scores, learning-path progress, badges and best streak, how many review cards you have and practised, and counts of your class assignments and class quiz scores. They never see your chats, memory, photos, documents or email. Quiz and learning-path titles are hidden unless you choose to share them. You can remove a parent at any time, and a parent can unlink at any time.
How long it is kept
- Chats, memory and progress: until you delete them or delete your account.
- Safety records: 90 days.
- Deleting your account (You → Account → Delete my account) permanently erases your account and everything linked to it.
Security
Connections use HTTPS. Passwords are never stored in readable form. The AI key and Aerion's instructions stay on the server. You can turn on two-factor sign-in so a password alone can't open your account, and sign out of all devices at once under You → Security. No system is perfectly secure, but these safeguards are designed to keep your data private.
Children
Everyone is asked for their birth month and year when they start (we keep only the month and year). Children under 13 can use Aerion only after a parent or guardian agrees: until then the account is locked and can't use the AI, and we use the parent's email only to ask for that permission. If nobody agrees within 14 days, the account is deleted automatically. A parent can withdraw permission at any time from the link in the permission email, which deletes the child's account and everything in it, or contact aerion.help@gmail.com to review what is stored. Aerion uses simpler, age-appropriate answers for under-13s and extra care for teens, and never shows ads or sells data. Teens aged 13 to 17 should use Aerion with a parent or guardian's knowledge.
Your choices and rights
You can view and delete your chats and memory, turn memory off, download a copy of everything Aerion stores about you (You → Account → Download my data), and delete your account at any time inside Aerion. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights. To make a request, contact aerion.help@gmail.com.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the date at the top will change and Aerion will let you know in the app.
